One of the most confident and fully realized studio debuts in recent memory comes from the London post-punk band Savages. Silence Yourself is a much-needed record right now: a feminist statement that combines art, politics and brute-force rock. Jehnny Beth sings with a powerful vibrato, but in case you don't get the message, guitarist Gemma Thompson, bassist Ayse Hassan and drummer Fay Milton provide corporeal reinforcement.
